Breitenbush Eco Fund ... Mission Breitenbush Eco Fund is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to extend the Breitenbush vision of holistic education and ecological stewardship to the greater community. Ecological Stewardship At the turn of the new millennium, the Breitenbush Foundation (renamed “Breitenbush Eco Fund” in 2005) acquired 67 acres of forestland adjacent to Breitenbush Hot Springs (the other "half" of the original 160 acre Breitenbush homestead). Slated for major development, this once pristine wildlife habitat was clear-cut, bulldozed & dynamited. Roads, ponds & cabins were built, geothermal wells drilled, and industrial waste dumped. This activity damaged the land but created great energy & restoration potential. Thanks to generous donations from supporters, the Fund was able to purchase this land, and in 2002 transferred the title to Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat & Conference Center, in exchange for a conservation easement that protects portions of the land in perpetuity. Breitenbush Eco Fund has a continuing interest in this land, viewing it as an enduring living laboratory of wild land restoration and appropriate technology. It continues pursuing opportunities here and elsewhere to restore land once deforested or “developed”. Your continued support helps in this mission. Holistic Education
The installation in 2005 of state-of-the-art Earth Tubs for composting all kitchen and dining room waste at Breitenbush Hot Springs was made possible by the support of the Breitenbush Eco Fund. They are a source of knowledge and inspiration for thousands of guests annually.
